arrow 1. Which area does the Water Utilities Corporation serve?
 

The Water Utilities Corporation is mandated to provide potable water to all cities, towns and villages in Botswana. In addition, WUC is also responsible for waste water services.

arrow 2. What is the relationship between WUC and the Department of Water affairs?
 

WUC is a parastatal while DWA is a government Department under the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources.

arrow 3. Where does WUC get the water it supplies to Batswana?
 

WUC is the custodian of Botswana’s 6 major dams, Gaborone, Bokaa, Nnywane, Shashe, Letsibogo and Ntimbale. There is also an addition of Molatedi Dam in South Africa which Botswana also gets water from

arrow 4. How often do WUC water bills come out?
 

Customers are billed once every month.

arrow 5. How do I get my bill?
 

Your bill will be posted to the postal address you provided on your application form, monthly. You can also get your bill from our Contact Centre at 0800 555 555.

arrow 6. What can I do to ensure my meter readings are received by WUC in time so I can be billed accurately?
 

Always provide access to WUC meter readers so they can take your accurate readings. You can also record the readings on your meter and submit them to our Contact Centre at 0800 555 555.

arrow 7. Is my tap water safe to drink?
 

Yes. WUC has maintained an excellent record of compliance with the World Health Organisation (WHO) prescribed standards for drinking water. In addition to the WHO Standards WUC also complies with drinking water standards as stipulated by the Botswana Bereau of Standards (BOBS).Every hour our laboratory personnel check the quality of water at different points along the distribution network, from the raw water to the consumer’s tap.

arrow 8. What causes water supply interruptions to my home sometimes?
 

Ø Burst water pipes

Ø Planned maintenance along the distribution network. Consumers are notified of these beforehand

Ø Plumbing problems in the consumer’s yard

arrow 9. What should I do after noticing a water leak in my house?
 

WUC only attends to leakages around the meter area and outside the homestead. Call the Contact Centre on 0800 555 555 to report these leakages or burst pipes. Leakages within the consumer’s yard are the consumer’s responsibility. Consumers should secure the services of a plumber for these.

Report any other burst pipe you may come across in public areas, uninhabited plots, etc

arrow 10. Who is responsible for taking care of the WUC meter in my yard?
 

The consumer is responsible for looking after the meter installed in their yard. In case of theft the consumer will be expected to pay for the replacement of the meter.

arrow 11. Can I get water connected to my plot located in an unserviced area?
 

WUC does not develop water reticulation networks. It is the consumer’s responsibility to ensure the infrastructure is in place for WUC to connect a water service for them.

arrow 12. Whose responsibility is it to conserve water?
 

It is every water user’s responsibility to conserve water. If we each save a little, together we SAVE a lot.
